Do you love Sister Schubert’s Sausage Rolls as much as my family and I do? They are a staple at pretty much every holiday around here. Unfortunately, we reserve them for holidays mostly because A. They are fairly expensive for my taste unless I can find them on a great sale, and B. We really prefer to eat whole wheat instead of white breads whenever we are able to. So, with no further ado, I present to you my “Sister Heather’s Sausage Rolls.”
This recipe made 3 pans of rolls with 16 rolls each
First, I discovered the best 100% whole wheat roll recipe in the whole wide world! So go to this website and make the dough just like she says! (Don’t forget the salt! She makes a point to say so, but stupid me went ahead and forgot one time and it was just not the same!)
The finished dough, turned out onto a floured tea-towel
Now that your dough is finished, divide it into 48 pieces.
Divide the dough into 4 pieces
Divide each of the fourths into 12 dough balls
Now butter up whatever pans you plan to bake in
Place a Little Smoky Sausage in the middle of each roll
Wrap the sausage in the dough and seal up the bottom as well as you can
Place the rolls seam side down in your baking dish
My husband believes that he is the official tester of the the center roll to make sure it is done. He would be happy to come to your house and eat the center roll from each of your pans too! He’s nice like that.
